Cacao and Hemp Gut Friendly Bliss Balls

Posted by Melissa Finlay on April 7, 2022

A delicious snack to keep your energy levels stable.

I'm definitely a snacker. Between meals I do like to reach for something extra to nibble on, and in the afternoon I often want something a little sweet and a little chocolatey. I try to make sure I have something on hand that isn't packed full of sugar and other junk like artificial colours and processed binding agents. These bliss balls are perfect afternoon treat or dessert and Percy and I both love them. I use them as "incentive" for Percy to eat his dinner! It usually works like a charm.

The details:

These little bliss balls have all the good stuff, some healthy fats and oils from the coconut oil and peanut butter (you can use any kind of nut butter you like, or remove altogether and use some more coconut oil) as well as omegas and protein from the hemp seeds. (I love these little gems at the moment) Oats are gentle on the gut and feed good bacteria as well as providing a good source of gut loving fibre. The cacao gives that chocolate flavour I crave. I use a dash of maple syrup to give a little sweetness and cut through the strong flavour the cacao gives, but you could use rice malt syrup if you're avoiding fructose or you could just remove altogether if you like your chocolate really intense.

The Recipe:

So here is the recipe to add some sweet snacking into your life:

Ingredients:

1 cup of rolled oats

3 tablespoons of hemp seeds

1 heaped tablespoon of natural peanut butter or any nut butter

1/4 cup of melted coconut oil

dash of maple syrup

3 tablespoons of cacao powder

Method:

Blend the oats and hemp seeds together in a processor or blender (I use my nutribullet)

Pour the mixture out into a large bowl Add all the other ingredients into the bowl and mix together with a spoon until the mixture becomes wet and starts to stick together

Use a tablespoon to scoop out the mixture and roll into balls Place into a lined container and into the freezer for 20 mins

Transfer the container into the fridge

Will last for 4-5 days no issues, if you don't eat them all!

Let me know if you make these bliss balls, i'd love to know what you think of them!
